Ameerega altamazonica

Adult Size: 3cm

Does best in: Small groups.

Ideal temp: 75°F to 80°F

Care: Intermediate

About: Recently described By Twomey and Brown, 2008, distinguishing altamazonica from hahneli based on call, distribution among other things. In 2006 this spectacular copper-back form was discovered by UE whilst on expedition with E.Twomey and W. Olthof (from the Netherlands). Care and breeding similar to hahneli, however CB offspring take some time to attain their full colour potential, and it seems that supplementation may be necessary to bring out the true red of the flash marking. Spectacular animals, and a great addition to any collection. Limited availability.

"Bajo Huallaga"

Adult Size: 1.5 - 2cm

Does best in: Small groups.

Ideal temp: 75°F to 80°F

Care: Intermediate

About: This predominately striped imitator is a mimic of the local ventrimaculatus. Though relatively uncommon in captivity, striped populations of imitator predominate the lowlands of northeastern San Martin and adjacent areas of Loreto, making them are the most commonly occurring phenotype in nature. Like all imitators these are bold and charasmatic in the vivarium.

Note. Commonly referred to as R.i. yurimaguensis, a name we consider invalid, as the striped phenotype is repeatedly expressed within the imitator mimicry model.
