About: Visually similar to aurantiaca, but slightly more robust, with somewhat granulated skin, and as the name suggests, is most easily distinguished by the black tympanum.

About: A semi arboreal species of Mantella. The breeding strategy of this species is unique among mantellas in that small numbers of eggs are laid individually. Also unique is that tadpoles morph into fully coloured froglets. In many ways laevigata shares more in common with the Dendrobatids of the Neo-tropics than the do with the Mantellas of Madagascar.
