Dendrobates auratus

Dendrobtes auratus "Blue"
Dendrobates auratus "Camo"
Dendrobates auratus "El Cope"
The largest and the boldest of all of the auratus we work with.
Dendrobates auratus "El Cope"
There is some variation in this morph with dorsal coloration spanning the spectrum from green to turquoise.
Dendrobates auratus "Microspot"
Whether this morph is just a variant of the green and bronze Panamanian auratus or a true auratus remains up for debate. We are working with F1 animals from SNDF and F2 groups from our original group. For the most part they breed true, but some individual have large bronze spots as opposed to "microspots"
Dendrobates auratus "Nicaraguan Green and Black"
The quintessential auratus and a must for any collection!
Dendrobates auratus
We are not sure of the locality of this auratus but we presume it must come from the same general vicinity as the campana. Very similar to the campana but with army green amidst the brown and cream reticulum. We anticipate availability of this morph later this year.
Dendrobates auratus "Reticulated"
A small and relatively lean form of auratus, that while strikingly pattern is unfortunately one of the most timid auratus.
Dendrobates auratus "Super Blue"
We are working with F1 animals from SNDF of this spectacular frog. Some animals are decidedly green rather than blue, but nearly all will develop a stunning bronze on the dorsum and limbs, which only intensifies with age.

Dendrobates auratus Information

Dendrobates auratus is a medium to large sized poison frog distributed throughout central America from Nicaragua through to extreme northern regions of Colombia, with introduced populations found in Hawaii. Throughout its range, auratus is distributed in lowland and pre-montane forest regions, occasionally venturing above 1000m. Auratus may frequently be found in close proximity to human settlements, in highly disturbed habitats and even within the confines of larger cities (Siquirres, Costa Rica).

In captivity, auratus has earned the deserved reputation of being a good beginner species, given its hardy nature, abundance, and affordable price. The variety of phenotypes represented within the species add to its intrigue and desirability and has earned auratus of one form or another a place in almost every poison frog collection.
