Ameerega trivitatta “Bajo Huallaga”
From the extreme lower reaches of the Rio Huallaga, this lowland form inhabits swampy regions, often inundated by the riverine floodwaters. Unlike the cleanly striped animals from further up river, these frogs display a network of broken dorsal stripes, which give some animals a spotted appearance.

Ameerega trivitatta “Greenback”
From the eastern lowlands south of the Amazon, and throughout the Ucayali and Pachitea watersheds we have trivitatta that possess a green dorsum. The amount of green on the dorsum, and it intensity may vary from locality to locality. These forest green frogs originate downriver from Iquitos.

Trivittata is a large frog wide spread throughout South America. They are terrestrial, and frequently encountered in close proximity to human habitation, and in most places population densities appear higher near villages and settlements. In captivity, given their size trivittata should be kept in spacious enclosures. We recommend no less than a 25 gallon tank for a pair of these frogs. Given plenty of space and abundant cover in the vivaria, trivitatta will acclimate and display well. Males are extremely vocal, and will call throughout the day from elevated perches. Clutch sizes may exceed 50 eggs but usually number in the 20-30 range. An excellent species for any experience level.
