Agalychnis spurrelli
These wonderful treefrogs come from the heart of the Ecuadorian Choco. The rainforest here is some of the most beautiful, and imperilled in the world. These spurelli were produced directly in situ using scientifically sound and rigorously monitored ranching practices using habitat augmentation. Harvesting a controlled number of post metamorphic individuals ensures that the wild population will not be negatively impacted, and in fact may be augmented do to the construction in situ of several artificial ponds which are an essential requisite for the breeding of this species. These frogs remain smaller than the giant sizes attained by their Mesoamerican counterparts. This is as far as we can tell the first time that Ecuadorian Agalychnis spurelli have ever been made available to hobbyists. As the pictures clearly demonstrate, the infamous Red Eyed Treefrog (Agalychnis callydras) has nothing on this Ecuadorian beauty.
