This stunning fern grows in cool Andean Cloudforests where is seems to be sporadically distributed at elevations around 2000m.  When encountered it is often found growing both terrestrially and epiphytically, and almost always in deep shade.  Fascinatingly new plantlets will ocasionally develop from the indent at the tip of mature fronds.  Very limited availability of well started plants.
